I don’t consider myself an artist, but most of my friends are, and I’m married to one. Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of behavior that ranges from awkward to outright unacceptable. Here are some dos and don’ts to ensure that your experience with an artist is a good one for both parties. This is…
How to talk to an artist:
just talk to them. Like, just walk up and talk. Hit send, whatever. I like it when people talk to me. I really appreciate it when people take time out of their day to tell me that they like what I do, especially if they seek me out at a show or con or something. I don’t even mind if people commit any sort of faux pas… they don’t know that I’ve heard that a hundred times already that day. I don’t feel like someone should have to follow some points on a guide* of how to talk to me. I’d rather someone talk to me and say the “wrong” thing than be afraid to say anything.
I feel like I should write a guide for how artists should talk to their fans since I’ve met more rude artists than buyers.
*Not to say that this isn’t a good guide or anything since there are some good points here
