It looks like you're using oils--do you have to prime or gesso the wood beforehand in order to prevent any oil from seeping into the wood and discoloring it? I'm never quite sure how to approach the surface before I begin painting on it because I so love the way the grain looks through the paint but I don't want to stain it.
I use acrylic, gouache, ink, and colored pencils on wood. I still seal the panel with a matte acrylic medium before painting. When I do use oil on wood, I seal it with a gloss acrylic varnish or medium first as it works better than matte for oils. If you use oil directly onto the wood, it’ll definitely sink through and spread out over time.
